I have been in a cleaning up and cleaning out mood lately.  Maybe it is the spring weather…maybe it is the overflowing of stuff but regardless I have been on a mission.  If anyone knows me then they know I don’t waste.  I use everything to the end.  So in turn, I have collected a large hamper of fabric scraps.  Instead of trashing them, I decided to make something with them…….a table runner!  See how lovely it looks on our table?  I just can’t bear the thought that these scraps would have ended up in a landfill somewhere. You will see more creations soon!

Mary Poppins

Tomorrow is ma’s birthday! To celebrate we took her to see “Mary Poppins” off Broadway in Charlotte! It was great! What an inspiration to see the amazing costumes and intricate sets. The vibrant colors and textures were very inspiring. The music was great too….supercalafradulous…..is stuck in my head as I am typing this.

My husband teases me often about the “Gantt Girl Terms” my parents taught my sisters and me.  I never knew it was odd to say “Chester Drawers” instead of “Chest of Drawers” or “Flowerdy” instead of “Flowery”.  I often use the terms ragamuffin, wooleybugger, and whirlygig.

When I stumbled upon this  quilt “Whirly Wheels”  the name caught my eye.  What I find really inspiring about this project are the colors and shape.  I am adding it to my “to-do” list!

Quilting Bug

It has been a while since I blogged but I have been a busy girl with work, church, friends, family etc. Now that summer is here I have got the creating fever….especially quilting. I have lots and lots of fabric scraps that are longing to be made into something useful and beautiful.

Here are some photos I find lovely and inspiring….

Perhaps its the colors…perhaps the shapes…mostly i think it’s the comfort and functionality of these quilts.  I am excited to get to quilting!

A New Year

I don’t like making New Year’s Resolutions…especially those that involve diet and exercise.  I feel we should eat right and exercise year-round.  I know I could do better and I will  strive to do so but this is not my resolution.

My resolution?  I want to slow down, enjoy life, and make the most of every  moment.  Life goes by so fast.  I want to appreciate others and build stronger relationships with those in my life and make new friendships.  I want to be a better wife, a better sister, a better daughter, a better mentor, a better artisan, a better blogger, a better designer, a better friend,  a better person.

I am an avid fan of Alabama Chanin.  I appreciate how this company  focuses  on slow design and sustainability.  In one of Natalie’s recent posts she says ” Wouldn’t it be a wonderful thing if we only brought products (things) into our homes that we wanted to keep for the rest of our lives?  And when those products and things become old, we simply recycle them into our own lives.”  What an amazing and simple concept!  One I will truly strive for in this year to come.

Happy New Year to you and yours!
